I am in no way saying that I would resort to a gun before fighting. That is a last resort when your life or someone elses is in danger, and you have no other option. Trust me, I have no problem defending myself, and in fact, most of the time when people find themselves in a situation where they could be in a fight, you can't carry anyway. You can't carry when you are drinking, and you can't carry in a bar (or any other place defined by state statute as a place of nuisance) which is where 99% of the fights I have been in have happened.. I think you are missing the point.. The whole reason behind having/carrying a gun, is to protect your life and the life of others, should you find yourself in a situation where you need to do so. 95% of people who carry a concealed firearm never have to use it, nor does anyone ever know they have it. But that other 5% who have had to, will tell you exactly why any law abiding citizen should excersize their right to bear arms...

Hopefully you never have to find yourself on the business end of someones weapon, but if you do, you'll either be thankful you are carrying, or wish you were...
