Hey, you must be confused bro. I've never heard of a v6 protege, and i dont really know if the swap can be done. But if there in fact is a v6 protege some things that may happen are:
1. You may not have enough room, the klze in the protege is a REAL TIGHT fit, so you may have a jam packed engine bay like a 300zx.
2. Your crossmembers may be different and may not work without some real fabrication.
3.Your stock tranny may not fit the v6 block so you may have to buy a used tranny, axles, half shaft, mounts, etc.....and let me tell you it is NOT cheap for your car, if you had an older car, it would be different.
Anyway theres alot to consider man, its not a stroll in the park. I'd go for something a bit more reasonable and something thats been done before. I'd personally just make do with what you have. If you had a first gen protege, then you would have ALOT more options. Anyways good luck and if you need a hand, let me know. Peace

Well first off Ive never heard of a "V4" mostly because your car has an "inline 4".
And why would you want to go do somethind stupid and swap motors, there is so much work involved.
1st You not only have to switch motors, you also have to switch trannys and the ECU.
2nd Your waisting you time it won't even fit, unless you and experts had cutting and welding.
3rd Are the cars auto or standard, cause if they are auto you going to be a ricer....
Your waiting your time. Drive your car for gas milage and buy another car and work on it like a 240sx you can do and SR20 motor swap and they come turboed, the SR20 that is.

Hey bro I have a 95 protege looking to swap anything better into it. It's only got 80 hp. So I was thinking of putting anything better into it, can you give me a acouple ideas of engines i could fit into it no problem?
I am pretty sure he asked for help and advice, and not to be made a mockery of. x-clusive gave good advice,on the other hand.....
markv6gt you drive a fwd probe, you have no room to talk. and what makes an automatic a "ricer" there are plenty of auto cars out there on TR and i doubt you would call them a ricer. btw old vw's had v4's
now onto the subject at hand, spyd3r. it would be wise to keep your I4 and to do intake, exhaust, clutch, internals, and just boost the piss out of it. if youre willing to do the work of a motor swap, this will be easier.

First things first, if you think your car has a v4 you need to do a shit ton more researching about cars before you attempt anything near a motor swap or have someone do it for you. Second, I don't think your sister's Protege has a v6 because it wasn't even an option.
Third. Here's some advice for you. The common view with 3rd gen Proteges is we don't really have any options for swaps. That being said, the motor in the protege isn't the best candidate for boost either unless you build the block. I would advise you to just do some small stuff on the car now and keep it N/A (naturally aspirated aka non-turbo). Intake, header, exhaust, some light suspension work, etc. This will let you get to know the car better and you'll get a little more performance out of it as well.
Also, check out Mazda Forums It's a huge mazda forum and the people there can help you out with just about anything that has to do with a Protege. Good luck.

well for the fact being the KL v6 can directly bolt into a protege b/c they both share the same BG cassis and yes i have seen one but not in your model year. So like mentioned above your sis does not have a v6 in there unless its The 92-97 escort, mx3, and protege are all BG chassis and for the most part are interchangable. But you my friend have lucked out being you have a 2000 + protege. which you probly have a BP in there and you dont even know it and that is all the motor you will need for that car being it can handle boost really well and easly maintained. GL and KNOWLEDGE IS KEY WHEN OWNING A MAZDA SO SEARCH IS YOUR BEST FRIEND

hell yea i have a 2000 1.6. they say that the 1.6 handles boost better than all of the three engines offered for the protege(1.6,1.8,and 2.0 which are all 4 bangers). if u really wanna do a swap i would go for the bpturbo which is basically the same engine with a turbo and 4wd which is y ur better off buying a hiboost turbo kit so unlike r3run said if u really want to make power turbo it dont leave it NA. the protege has potential to beast with a turbo on it, ask anyone on the mazda forums(protegepower.com is the best one cuz people actually try to help u unlike protegeclub.com where all people do is talk shit kinda like here)
and markv6gt how the hell is auto "rice"? ive seen 1000hp supras w/ rebuilt and reinforced auto trannys in magazines that will probably, actually definitely will fuuuuck up a auto probe. and my auto protege runs all over probes even the v6 probe. so whats so wrong with autos
