question about slave cylinder
question about slave cylinder
I've asked on tbdsm, but it's been two days without a response, so I'm going to ask here, also.
Would using a 13/16" piston slave cylinder when my current slave cylinder has a 3/4" piston adversely effect the working of the clutch hydraulic system?
I wanted to rebuild my slave cylinder, but nobody has the right kit, they all give me the 13/16 piston kit when I order one. My piston is all scored to hell so though I do not see scratches on the bore of the slave cylinder, I'm just going to go ahead and give up, buy one of the rebuilt slave cylinders they sell for only 3 times the price of the kit. But if I order one and it's the same dang 13/16's piston, only with a bunch of unneccessary parts wrapped around it, can I use it?
Also, how bad of an idea is it to leave the master cylinder unchanged? I was planning on doing a clutch swap in a few months, sooner if this slave cyl. swap doesn't fix my extreme clutch slipping problem. I was just going to change it then- it's not leaking now, and it's a pain to get at that sucker.

What year, make and model
You would only need to change it if you clutch dose not disengage and or leaking if it slips your clutch is toast. But if its a dsm the slave cyl is real easy to change two bolts and one line.
But it sounds like its your clutch. Sorry to bring the bad news

I have not heard of any dsm with a bad slave cyl on a stock clutch. But again its a dsm so anything is possibile.
How did you figure out your slave was bad?

if you are running a heavier pressure plate than stock you are 99% not going to be able to disengage your clutch fully with the green (13/16") piston slave cylinder.
you need the red (3/4") piston slave cylinder.

that is just asking for trouble.
he should just get the right part and fix it correctly. Autozone sells the slave cylinders for like $11.00

I figured out that my slave cylinder was bad by pulling off the boot and having a bunch of black brake fluid dump on me. Then I took it apart and the piston was scored heavily. As far as I know it's a stock clutch. It caused the clutch to completely fail when it went, it was spontaneous. I was driving along normally, pushed in the clutch to downshift, heard a loud pop and the pedal went to the floor, and was dead from then on.
PiercedJD- Dang. I was going to switch to an ACT 2600 ASAP. I want to use the right piston, but the guys at autozone looked, the only 3/4" piston rebuild kit is for a fwd eagle talon, and the boot looks completely different. I guess my last resort is to try using that one, maybe with my old boot.
the boot has jack shit to do with how it works.
they are the same slave cylinder. the only difference is between 1G and 2G.
all 1G slave cylinders will fit all 1G transmissions. get the red pistons slave cylinder.
