Saw an older Eclipse (like Plymouth Laser old) going down Mc Mullen booth. Drove along side him for a while to listen to the exhaust, sounded like I heard a turbo, a bit of whine and small chirp on upshifts. He eventually pulled into the townhouses just north of boot ranch.

It was black and had hubcaps, looked totally stock only having an aftermarket muffler.

Did the older Eclipses have turbos or was this one modified?

most likely if it had hub caps it wasn't a turbo model. the turbo models didn't come stock with hub caps but then again our rims (stock eclipse 1g) do look like hub caps so maybe. did it say anything one the back or side like 16v doch tubro or gs turbo?

Really? My car has steel wheels with hubcaps, 14's, and I just assumed that the previous owner had aftermarket rims and switched them for some base model wheels he found when he got ready to sell the car.

Whatever, if I can fit some dual piston 93+ AWD brakes under them and find some lower profile, less-crappy tires, I'm sticking with them. I'm about to debadge as if anybody knew what a "laser rs" was anyway, and hopefully I'll be able to do the cutout/stock exhaust and get rid of my a pillar pod soon. Then the car will be "all stock base model."
