thanks for all the info. I dont have an aftermarket intake. I've been looking for one for so long. If anybody can get a hold of one lemme know man. Its not really loud to my understanding when it's not vented into atmosphere.

Thanks for all the info guys.

The Greddy Type S is pretty loud, even vented. I have heard a few people drive by in 2G's with the Type S vented into the intake and it was definently noticeable. The reason yours is quieter, is due to the stock air box. Once you get an open air filter, you will definently notice a difference from the inside of your car.

I have the HKS SSQBOV and I don't think it's as loud as the Greddy Type S is, but I have never listened to my car from the outside.

Actually, the HKS on my car kind of does have the sound you are describing. Usually, under normal load, it will produce a triple "choo" sound. This is most likely due to it being re-routed into the intake and because the T-25 doesn't push alot of boost. I bet it would have a much sweeter sound if I mounted it on a lower intercooler, right behind the air dam and it was open to the atmosphere, with a larger compressor of course.

I tried it once just for kicks, using the stock 1g bov. I had to hold the revs above 2500 or it would just stall out. Made a nice "whoosh" noise when I let off the throttle in boost, not squeaks or chirps or whistle to it, just rushing air. Sounded neat until I put the tube back on 3 minutes later. I don't miss the noise. I'll probably replace the 1g unit with a type-s at some point, recirculate that as well. I want to max out my planned evo III setup, and that's going to involve running more than the 18-20 psi I've read even crushed 1g's will start leaking at.

not to be gay and hijack this thread, but what exactly does venting the bov to the atmosphere achieve? im confused by the whole functionality behind it..

Venting to the atmosphere pretty much changes nothing cept for the sound. The sound is much louder with vented to atmosphere. Although like these guys said the MAF counts on that recirculation being there, thus without it, stalls. Too much fuel.

i thought air came out of the little bolt thing at the top, which is the reason it tears up the heat shield under the hood?
