I was lucky enough to register during the open period. I started off making a few posts contributing as best I could to the tech info on the board, but I quickly realized that if I rubbed anybody the wrong way or made even one mistake in any post, I would be booted and lose access to the invaluable information there. So, I stopped posting and use it only as a search resource. The few times I've posted since after I first registered have been to congratulate the Goodwill guys and even then I'm taking a risk- my Oct 04 join date means any post I make will be subjected to many times the scrutiny older established posters are subject to. I plan to never post again if I can help it.
Realistically, you're screwed. The only way you could truly participate in a lot of the discussions is if you're either an technical expert rivaling the best in the country or if you're running in the 9's or low 10's and your group of peers is small enough that your personal experience can be useful data. As a college student on a small budget running in the 12's without some sort of exceptional knowledge or training, you're not going to add anything unique to the group- I already tried. Just make do with whatever information you can find publically and learn to sort through the bullshit on sites like DSMtalk. DSMtalk really wasn't so bad before it shut down, with about as good a tech-to-bullshit ratio as you could hope for on a public board. I haven't seen much of anything out of it after its resurrection. I only bother with Tuners when I'm searching for info on the low-budget crap I make do with that no NABR member would touch with a 10 foot catback, like my ebay intercooler and downpipe.

People can pay people to make thier car fast.I'm no genius when it comes to cars period but if a information source is available i think it would help if more was published. In short terms allow browsing as a guest but not being able to post would be helpful for nabr.

Then how did I get 152 posts? You are pretty much right but if you show you have some kind of worth, common sense and not an idiot and can add somewhere at some point to the board then you will be accepted.
