2006 Eclipse Out Already?!?
I drove one the other day as well... was bored and just bullshitted my way through a potential sale... hehe. Was pretty nice, I drove the 2.4L Mivec 5 speed. Seems pretty much like my buddy's Lancer Ralliart, but different car. Very nice I think, big improvement over the 3G. The one i drove was like 20-22K depending on package. The GT which has the V6 in it was alot nicer with leather, 18s, etc etc etc, 260hp Mivec 3.8L. I think the price for the GT is justified. Its a powerful V6 getting up there with all the other competitors like Nissan and Honda. Im sure with a little work the GT would be 300hp and all kinds of fun, but sadly still FWD.

Well, Mitsubishi is "off to a great start" in their hopes of trying to regain some momentum in the US auto market (yeah right).
Mitsubishi Motors Corp. LOST $4.41 Billion in its fiscal year that ended March 31, 2005.
To top it off, the new '06 Eclipses already have a recall on them. The new Eclipses are already having braking problems, straight off the lot. It's a shame too, because Mitsubishi really needed a good debut with their highest selling car. This obviously, will not help with their already burdening problems.
What's worse, is the GT model is going for close to $30k. That can get you a brand new 350Z, which is a much better car in my opinion, not to mention it's RWD, versus the damn FWD configuration of the Eclipse. Historically speaking, a Nissan will give you a better resale value as well.
I don't know about you all, but I'd rather get a nice used Supra or rock a 350Z, over the new, heavy weighing, FWD slouching Eclipse. Hell, you could get an EVO RS for less. The Evos are just a bit to ugly to me though. (No offesne to you Evo owners)
"Wishing they would bring back a newly redesigned car, based off the 1G/2G AWD/turbo/4G63 setup." That'll never happen though, especially with the money they are hemmoraging and the shitty business practices Mitsubishi is performing.

too bad chrysler wont bail out Mitsubishi. then we may get back into a REAL eclipse. i saw one last week in the dark and i couldnt tell if it was a Cougar or not.
i think they tried to bring us the FTO in a fresh "clean sheet" design. think of this as the USDM FTO. not quite a real DSM and not quite an Evo or a GTO. soem sort of bastardized version w/o a driveline to maximize the power available. $30k for one of these is a little optimistic considering there is always an Evo. unfortunately, with the several plants that have already closed and the plans for Mitsu to axe several models, this isnt going to be promising. i also hear rumors that there will be no Evo after 06. there are brokers urging investors to buy mitsu stock and sell it short on the idea that they will continue to go down the toilet. so this is probably why the new eclipse is out so soon.

I doubt they will stay at 30k for long, it's probably since they just came out that they are so much, since the lots don't have many they are just doing supply and demand- at the dealership on 19 in springhill they have 2 silver ones and 1 orange one
