i dont think that the restaurant owner is going to be "chill" with you guys working/building a car in his parking lot, if that's what you're getting at

carry on

Work on the planning. Sorry brandon i guess i have to be specific with you. I don't think that we can all just meet up one time and build a car. We'd have to do just a little bit of planning before that.

Yes, we should definitely get together for a planning session. I'm starting a new thread here and posting in the existing thread on TBDSM to get suggestions for a central place- we want it to be accessible to people in Pinellas and Hillsboro.

Good news on the project- Chris, boostedone on TBDSM, has space for us to work on the car in his back yard at his house in St. Pete with the condition that the car isn't sitting there by this time next year . I haven't had time to go read all of the other tech forum threads in detail to see what progress people have made, and I don't know what plans are in motion in Scott's head (the most likely organizer of the tech forum showdown) but I'd have to guess that all the cars should be ready by and the event will happen at the TR track day after next. So obviously we should have it out of his place by then at the latest. It will probably only take a few day long or weekend long build sessions to put together the car especially if we get a good number of people helping.

Some good news and parts already being offered up to get this thing going-
Very generously, Chris has also offered a complete six bolt turbo longblock from valve cover to oilpan and a tranny needing new synchros. If Mike or somebody else could fix this tranny up we'd have the core components we need that I was most worried about finding. He also said he might have a usable EPROM ecu, so tuning could be fully taken care of with rom tuning.
Juan on TBDSM has offered a tial external wastegate and a 50 trim needing rebuild, and Chris says he may have the connections to get it rebuilt inexpensively. If we went that way we could all throw in a bit on the rebuild or something, just depends on how much it would end up costing.
If we can get some sort of intake pipe made up for it, I have a 2g maf just sitting around that I have no immediate plans for. If we go with the 50 trim or anything smaller the 2g maf would match up pretty well and give a more accurate airflow signal than a hacked 1g- if we go with rom tuning, that's a good thing.

That's already some of the hardest parts out of the way, an engine, if somebody can put new synchros in it a tranny, and a turbo setup. Major parts left that I can think of off the top of my head no matter which way we end up going are injectors, some sort of intercooler setup and piping, and a manifold and o2 better than the stock 1g stuff I have laying around. On top of that, a set of cams would be really nice but not absolutely critical like the stuff above. We can go into further detail at the planning session and as things develop.

I'm going to try to set aside some time this week to get out in the garage and give the blue car a good hard look to see what it would need to be brought up to speed. I know that at the minimum we'll need front left suspension pieces unless we can bang the bent ones into shape. My red car really didn't pull that badly with them on it, but the wheel had pretty bad positive camber to it- not good for the contact patch . I also know the engine harness was cut right as it went to the engine- we'd need a new one at least to the point where it goes back towards the firewall near the intake manifold. Other than that, I'll have to go look at it and try to pick out everything missing that a running car would need.

That'd be great. Hell, I wouldn't mind watching you at work on that one, the tranny is the one part of the car I've never had apart. Almost decided to rebuild mine myself after reading the mitsu rebuild manual but Jerry just does too good a job for too fair a price.

I have 1g laser rims with tires. I wanted to put them on to take the car down for paint, but after that I'd be willing to give them up. I haven't had them on the car for a while but they should be in good shape.
