Strange Electric Problem. Please Help
I bought my car with the interior lights not working. The instrument cluster, HVAC controls, center vent switch lights etc... dont work. I wanted to get a CD player so I installed an AIWA CD player. I didnt use a cd player harness or mitsubishi harness because all the speakers run an inderpendent wire and nothing is wired to the car's factory wires because the previous owner had everything wired completley different. The power wires are the only wires that are connected to the CD player. When I got in my car to drive I hit a couple of bumps along the road and all of a sudden all my interior lights flickered on like a christmas tree. Then after a few bumps more they came on and stayed on. I was glad I thought I didnt have to solve that problem anymore. Shortly after they went off. I took out the deck and for some reason when I push the deck down inside the dash the lights come on. This is really strange. I think all those wires behind the CD player are affecting this problem but I dont know what to do. Please help I need as much advice as possible.

could be a loose gorund wire also, i had a similar problem with my stock radio in my 90 tsi and everytime i would hit a bump it would turn on and off , found a lose ground wire and that solved my problem.

Hmmm, I had the same problem for a few weeks. If I hit a bump the speakers would cut out, but the subs and head unit stayed on. I couldn't figure it out for anything. I ripped it all out and re-installed it. It was an exposed wire under the back seat that would hit the metal on bumps.
check all ground wires, pull out your radio and try to follow all your grounds )depending on how prev. owner wired everything) and se if theres wires crossing , corroded or if theres a ground with a bare end barly touching metal, if that then just "tie" it down to the frame. good luck it really sounds like a loose wire.
