Default tail lights and dash lights messed up

i put some guages in my 92 awd talon a couple months ago. i used the cigarette lighter wires for power and the consol and dash lights for lighting. it seems that two of the consol wire got loose and arched or s/t (they were hanging out the electrical tape) now my dash lights dont work nor my tail lights when i have my head lights on. brake lights work thou.

fuses are fine.
could s/o have put a bigger amperage fuse b/f i owned the car and it mess s/t else up?

any ideas?
i just dont want to get pulled over. i dont get along with cops.

thankx

I've dealt with fuses that weren't obviously blown, but indeed were. Check to see if there's a fuse that controls all of those, if so check with a different fuse. (Grasps for more Straws)

Other then that check all wiring that you ran along other wires and look for a burn mark.

There is a fuse that controls exactly that, the taillights and interior. So it probably is a fuse. Check again. If your sure its not the fuse after checking it, and replacing it, then have fun checking the miles of wire behind your dash.
