420a Tunning...
420a Tunning...
I'm going to make it short and sweet...
Does anyone know a shop that knows how to tune 420a/turbo motors?
What I have:
-SAFC
-EGT
-Wideband (which i really don't need if i'm going to dyno tune it)
-625cc injectors
I went to RaceRelated and got my car dyno tuned. They did a well job and I will not critcize them. But my car is still running way rich and i know i can push out more horsepower/torque.
I'm not looking to save money. I don't want a cheap shop, I rather pay a little more and get it done right and I know it doesn't take a couple of runs to get the result i'm looking for. Money, Time, and Patience are the key factors...
Thanks in advance.

Luis, how much boost you trying to tune for? What is you mod list, from top to bottom?

i am sure James did a safe tune ... and check your dyno graph paper to make sure the A/f's are the same ... some times the wides bands can be off some what ... if they are the same I would tell him what a/f to tune for ... talk to james and i am sure he will take care of you

What is your base idle fuel pressure with the 625cc injectors??
How much boost are you trying to push???
What is your fuel pressure under boost??
Also I am just curious on did you decide to use the 625cc's?? Those are really big injectors which leads me to believe you are trying to run a lot of boost. Another observation with this might be that the injectors is pouring out too much fuel themselves causing you to run rich.
Like John said, what are your goals and what boost PSI are you looking to obtain??
Let us know

Here's my list of MODS:
-8.8:1 Ross Pistons
-Billet Crower Rods
-625cc injectors
-aeromotive fuel regulator (pressure set at 20)
-SAFC
-PLX M-300 Wideband
-Turbo-Back Exhaust
-EGT, Oil pressure Gauge, and Boost
-20G Turbo @ 16lbs of boost
-msd spark plug wires/ngk spark plugs
Plans: I want to boost at 20 and get a 350hp result... right now i'm getting 284.5 at the wheels.. He tried tunning it for more boost i guess the radiator couldn't handle it.
Here's the thing... When i first put in my turbo kit with factory internals and everything else factory my car had 215hpw. And it felt it had more power than what i have now.
Problems:
1. car runs rich ( which i know it's better than lean) but it smells like gas everywhere i go.
2. cruising speed in 2nd and 3rd needs to be tuned better. (it bogs a little)
5th Gear is where i get my best result... When i'm in cruising speed in 5th gear, then i floor it, it picks up great! But at any other gear, it doesn't.

Now if you are smelling gas I would check for a fuel leak somewhere. Rich burnt fuel smells but it doesnt neccesarily smell like gas unless you are pouring 1/2 your tank out through the exhaust. My first instict is to say its the injectors being too large and I am basing my information on the numbers located here :
http://www.2gnt.com/www/corbin/chooseinj.html
When I get home tonight I will look up some other things I have what other info I have that may help.
Funny thing I noticed about the stock 420A and a built one was when add the turbo, you really do feel the boost kick in. From what a reliable source has told me was because of the stock compression being higher. I dont know if I agree with that but that may be a possibility.

LS1fever tuned street tuned my car when i had 625cc and prior to having a "blow bye" But i think i'm going to try it anyways until i can invest in a port fueler by Hahn.

the higher compression will spool the turbo up alot faster and will make more power compared to a lower compression car at the same boost levels .... from what i hear
