Default Slugggish 92 TSI

I cannot get my recently purchased 92 TSI AWD, automatic to run as it should. It is sluggish on acceleration. The turbo spools up just fine but the car surges at acceleration and feels like it is being held back. I have also noticed some black smoke from the exhaust. It is completly stock accept for removing the snorkel and silencer from the air cleaner and I replaced the cat with a test pipe. I have replaced the plugs and plug wires and checked for vacuum leaks. A mechanic has looked at it and was not able to help and thought it could be the mas. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Also I am in the Sarasota/ Bradenton area and wonder if anyone knows a good DSM mechanic in this area. Thanks.

Im pretty positive you have a boost leak, thats why its causing you car to run rich and the black smoke. Check for a boost leak, and what kind of fuel are you using? you should put no less than 93.

Thanks I will continue to look for a boost leak. Could even a small leak cause the problem? I have used a piece of hose to listen for the leaks and pressurized the turbo intake, but have yet to find a leak. I use only 93 octane gas.

How is cooling cousing this? are you serious? Not to be rude here but coolant would be the last thing, if it was coolant related, the engine would have blown a headgasket since he's WOT it all the time obviously to check it out, the smoke wouldnt be Black, which 90% of the time is because of running rich, the smoke would be white due to all of the coolant/oil mixture. Its obvious that he is having air induction problems.

is the engine acting normal? is it bogging? any other symptoms?

What plugs did you put in. Make sure you have Bpr6es cause most other plugs make it studder while in boost. same with my 1g when i first bought it.

You might be right, do this, pull a spark plug... tell me what you see, if its all black your running rich, which you prob are due to all the black smoke. Do not get iridioum or whatever spark plugs, THEY WILL SUCK. Get the BPR7ES, proven to be the best.

if itlooks like this, its time for new tune-up;

Thanks for the advice. It has new NGK plugs but they are BPR6ES not the BPR7ES. Could this make a difference? I just pulled one and it is black.

You can get the car up to freeway speed but the problem is when you accelerate it is sluggish and seems to bog down. It also has a noticeable surge when driving 30 to 40 mph. My aftermarket boost guage reads 10 to 12 lbs. when I hit it but it feels like you are pulling a trailer. Thanks,
