Clutch/Tranny help
ok well now the car is not even drivable. today i was coming back from my brothers and as i was leaving i was hearing this low tapping/rubbing sound coming from the behind the drivers side front wheel. got home..went back out to get some beer and as i was driving the tapping/rubbing sound got 100 times worse..my steering wheel wobbles with the tap/rub sound it sounds like somthing is seriously out of place under there im not even sure what caused this. At certain speeds the sound will go away but as soon as i put the car in nuetral its SOOOO loud sounds like metal on metal hitting.
Did you make it home? If so, pull the transmission. When the input shaft bearing explodes while driving, you'll get a lot of clunking and times when you think the transmission is going to lock up (which it likely will).
So, again, pull the transmission and hand it over to someone who's willing to open it up and rebuild it if necessary. You'll be lucky if you don't need a new input shaft or transmission case.
EDIT: Of course, if you're under there and notice something else is obviously wrong, your transmission may be fine. No one is going to be able to tell you for sure without actually driving or listening to it (or looking at it).

it sounds like an axle might not be in the trans all the way or the input shaft on the axle might be to small, and as far as popping out of gear, if you rag on it hard the you might have chipped some teeth off the gears inside the trans. so everytime it hits that spot on the gear it will pop out of gear

its donethe pop out of 4th since i bought the car back in 2002
It sounds like a tranny, or engine mount. I just recently went through days of hell in my altima trying to cram the fucker into gear, I swear I coulda snapped the shifter before it woulda shifted, numerous starts in 3rd, and other bullshit. Sometimes it would go into gear, sometimes not, and then it would pop out. Long story short, it was a crack in one on my engine mounts causing the engine to barely move enough for the shifter to get kinked up.
