my goals are basically to get my car to not smoke, but I figured if I have to buy a turbo, it might as well be an upgrade.
I'm gonna go look at my IC pipes right now and check out the turbo. Then I'll see where I stand at that point. I'm new at turbos though.

Okay, I took off the ic pipe from the air intake and near the turbo it has this greyish-black sludge, I guess it used to be oil at one time, Ha.

It was oil, there was a quarter sized puddle just inside the intake inlet. There is no shaft play from what I can tell.

The seals are definetely shot. I would still do the compression test just for piece of mind.

As for the turbo I would look into the evo3 16g as I already stated or if you are on a budget I have a PERFECT condition 14b just sitting on a shelf.

Go with a 14b with install kit or just order a package deal of a 16g with a 2g install kit. I think Diamondstarmotorsport.com - Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, Plymouth Laser, Dodge Neon SRT-4 has this deal.
