Default loud noise

Ok, my car has been doing this since ive had it, and ive searched around different forums, but i havnt found anything.

my problem is this... driving at about 35mph, you can hear a hum. at 45mph its louder, at 55mph its headache-inducing, and at 60+mph it completely goes away. It's not drowned out, its completely gone. then when i slow back down to 59mph its loud again.

I thought it might be the wheel bearings, and ive tried cutting the wheel hard left and hard right, but it still makes the noise.

I thought it might even be the tires, since the sound goes away at a certain speed. other than that, I have no clue what it is. any ideas?

how does cutting the wheel hard to the left or right affect the rear wheel bearings? Check those... they are the first to go.

no qban dont say that! LOL would cutting the wheel make any difference on the noise if it were rear wheel bearings? I guess I could replace those, whether they are bad or not. couldnt hurt anything. also, does anyone know a shop that can press the bearings, without having to send them out? aka, a shop that could do it all in one day

I had a hard time finding the actual bearings. I believe that in our cars they don't sell them like that. You would have to buy the whole assembly. Its not all bad though If you buy it then you can do it yourself and they shouldn't be more than like 120 and that was the fronts. rear should be cheaper.

well ive found the bearings before, the only problem was just pressing the old ones out and the new ones into the spindle or knuckle or whatever. i did that on my 91 gs, i rigged up a hydralic press to do it. cant find one around ehre though
