im new to the eclipse world, help!?!?
haha thanks guys, im getting a gs 01, and what i heard from you guys goes fucking slow. but hey its a good for how much it goes for, but what should i do to make it look more aggresive?
How about you don't get an Eclipse... you get something else. They really don't hold any real value... honestly. The market and insurance is ridiculous too. We pay less for insurance on the Dodge SRT-4 Full Coverage then we do with the wife's 99 Eclipse RS Full Coverage. These Mitsubishi's are over-rated... took me a while to realize it. Insurance is high yet the value on the car's really depreciate.
For instance, I traded my 97 RS w/127k miles 3 months ago and all I got was $1,500 for it. My wife's car trade-in value 3 months later... her's is a 99 RS w/87k miles they want to give her $1,500. So let's see her car had less miles and was newer yet 3 months later she gets what I got for mine that was 2 yrs older and had more mileage. Yeah the plan is to get rid of her Eclipse for another SRT-4... waiting on the dealership to get back to us.
No offense to anyone because I do like the cars but for the money I spent on all 6 DSM's I've owned in the last few years I could have bought a new car that was faster and reliable. Took me a while to realize it... this is my take on this. I don't see the hype anymore in blowing so much money on cars that are known not to be reliable.
I can agree that maybe 2% of you have had luck with your DSM's but about 98% haven't. Maybe because you've bought yours unmodded and from someone that didn't rag on it... that's really all I can say if it hasn't broke down. The problem with these cars is people mod them first and worry about maintenance later. I wasn't stereotyping... but there's a high % that most do break down over the small % that don't. People say its the car when more then likely it falls down to the previous owner(s).
You and Dario have had reliable one's but look at the history of the cars (owner(s)/maintenance) compare to the other owners in this forum.
And Dario yours wasn't that reliable... it did break down at Gandy if I recall.

From what I've seen in my 2-3 years in the dsm community is that the owner does not take care of their vehicle.thats why they break.and then there's time people buy a car older than 10 years old and expect for it to run fine with no problem just because they do their routine maintenance. regardless if you do that or not something will go. for example a thermostat or some other bs. or maybe a turbo that has well over 100k on it.... My car was ragged on by its original owner.I bought it off of him on this website. Had the same mods on it (fmic, bov, full exchaust, blah blah blah), that was untill it went under the knife recently.Needless to say I got on it from time to time and never had problem. except for a factory clutch that needed to be replaced but thats just like having to swap out brake pads.
and as far as insurance goes...i pay 140 a month for full coverage, 500 deductable, road side assistance and rental car insurance for everyday my car is at the shop. To me that's pretty cheap. It really depends on whos insuring your car. I'm 21 and i have USAA auto insurance
