Troubles with my 99 eclipse gs
Troubles with my 99 eclipse gs
listen, this is my first time using this. i may not know as MUCH about cars as all of you but i am getting there fast ha.
anyways, i recently bought 99 eclipse gs a year and a half ago with 60,000 miles on it. eveyrthing is mint condition.
3 weeks within buying it, piston four disinigrated and i had to rebuild the engine.
anyways, the guy that did my car took 5 months to rebuild it cuz he's retarded and lazy. sooo i finally got it back and put a cold air intake on it, nothing much, and two weeks later it blew up again. this time piston 2 and 3 did the same thing and the engine ceased. so far its been in there 5 months again. i tried everything to make him go faster so o well.
my questions aree..
1. i hear people telling me it might be running to lean? i know what this means. how do i fix the problem? i'll answer any questions to the best of my abilities ha
2. no, im not trading it in for a gsx, cuz this car is the most mint condition you can find now and days for eclipses. im PROLLY not swapping the engine either. not looking for a turbo yet. but i AM looking for the most gain i can out of it. if ANY of you got any suggestions and are willing to explain it to me thatd be great.

Dude, I'm telling you. Sell this and go GST or GSX. It will work out so much better in the long run. You could sell your car now for about 3-4k and then take the extra money you would spend on the turbo kit and buy a nice, mildly modded 4G63 preferably AWD and you will be so much happier.

The only significant gain you will see, without a turbo, is with nitrous. It sounds like your engine blew (again) because of builder error.
If I owned a GS, I would put 11:5 - 12.0 compression pistons in it. Then I would spray a 150 shot using a progressive direct port kit. That is the best you're going to do without a turbo.

Ahhh, finally a 420a owner with some common sense
Holy crap. No offense but you got ripped especially with the engine problems you had.
More than likely you will give up on the turbo project simply because it's too much work and money. If you have the money, your best option is to go with the 4G63 motor. I've seen it all to often. My original intentions when I bought this car was boost but after alot of research it's just not worth the money and it's alot of hard work and fabricating. But do what you want and I'll be there to lend help.
