The car is not detonating on 9* timing and ethanol. You have to really try to detonate E85.

By the looks of the perfect rod bearings and good pistons it appears torque is the culprit. I have bent a stocker, however it took well over 500tq to do it.

He thinks low-end torque is the culprit. The car was hitting full boost so fast and the torque was just instant. I can understand it since everything else looks perfect, including the cylinder bores.

We have had super high torque Evo bend a rod similarly to that. Our current stock block Evo we hope to have hold up better as it has less low end torque and more power on top which should take it a little easier on the rods as long as the rpms at kept modest.

So far we have made 582wtq on my car @43psi by accident after changing out the spring in my manual boost controller. It was a bit scary for a moment but my Rods are perfectly fine. Ended up with a modest 547wtq @40psi which I ran all day at a track event. The only thing that couldn't hold up was the clutch. If I had to guess I would say there was too much fuel and it hydrolocked.

One question I do have is what EGT probe is in there and where is it located. 700C is very cold. Unless you have some high mass probe located in the downpipe or somewhere where you don't get a good reading.

Jerry is a old skool DSMr so I will assume he would put it in runner 2 or something.

probe is in middle of longest runner to extend life of probe. it runs about 50c cooler because of the position. I did experiment with tuning and had egt go as high as 850 at 12.5 A/F but it did not feel faster. Car felt strongest with more fuel at 10.8-11.0. most of the time I had egt hitting about 780. I played with the timing a few weeks ago and the egt was only hitting 700. felt stronger than ever.

I do believe the rod bent from pre ignition. I have been fighting misfire at peak torque. there may have been enough unburnt fuel at BDC to have ignitable mixture. damn wasted spark ignition.

I am leaning toward a built 2.3. car was so much fun with the 2.3/ 20g. its just worth breaking a tranny every now and then.
