Default Mobil 1 bad?

Apparently some big name shops like FP and AMS have proven mobil 1 to be bad for your journal bearing turbos saying the metal lubrication is minimal. What are you guys' thoughts on this?

Don't use mobile 1, it will ruin your journal turbo - evolutionm.net

I heard this from one friend about 2 weeks ago. He said when he was at a shop up in gainsville, the people in the shop were trying to convince someone else to stop using the oil haha. I don't know where to really stand on the issue tho. I know alot of people are probably gonna get ready to swap oils tho lol. Almost everyone I know runs it haha.

Imo there's much more to the situation the "mobile 1 is bad". Stock Turbos, Hta greens, etc use a different material bearing as opposed to the Fp red and fp black turbos. I mercilessly beat on my fp red for over 12k miles with Mobile 1 oil and had zero shaft play when I sold it. Then when I purchased the Fp black I had two thrust bearong failures in less then 2k miles on less boost then my red.

Imo the oil pressure requirements of the fp black are too demanding for teliability, 70psi minimum above 4k rpms......

I believe they stated that the lack of zinc in the newer oil is why it doesn't lubricate as well. I may switch, but I'm also still using the 64mm (stock) cover and stock location feed line with my FP Red.

That's how I ran my Red @37psi daily with Mobile 1. Never had an issue. I think another possible cause that no one is addressing is the fact that in place of the stock 16g wheel they now have essentially a 35r wheel. When Mitsubishi designed the shaft and largest possible bearing clearance in the 16g cartridge, I doubt they ever intended it to be able to withstand such a large wheel ratio....

I'm sure they machine the housing's for the larger shafts/wheel clearances, but it's no wonder there's been some issues with the FP Black though. The problems I've heard of with the FP Red's were road course cars taking high G turns, which knee jerked the "oil line kits" and now this. Is it the really oil, high G turns, not sufficient oil pressure from the stock location, bad design, or a little of all those, we'll never know I guess. Comforting to see you could possibly flog the FPRed @37psi for a good chunk of mileage though I guess.
