Default Evo tuners opinion

At a dyno day today at one of the local shops I decided to throw my car on the dyno. The dyno was a Dyno Dynamics and it notorious around here for hurting people's feelings.

Power is not bad, but I'm really disappointed. My torque comes on so late. My 50trim setup felt faster. Some specs on my build are:

TurboTrix 2.3L (Eagle rods, Wiseco 9.0:1 pistons), ETS 3582 with tubular mani and rest of kit (maybe 700 miles on the kit), PTE 1000 inj, Injen intake and UICP, ETS 3.5" FMIC, 3" catless exhaust (it's a mix of greddy, apexi and custom race pipe), Spoolin COP, HKS 264/272 cams (old style...yeah I know they suck) and headstuds.

Maybe I was expecting the stroker to make some more torque than this. I dunno. Something just seems wrong with the power and the curve. Any ideas??

That looks like a very lazy torque curve for a 2.3L setup. What size hotside? Did you check for boost leaks? Who tuned the car?

Yeah thats seriously lacking down low. I know I run a smaller turbo, but I hit peak tq at about 3400rpms. Your turbo should not be 2000rpm laggier than mine...I guess I also have stock cams though..

What rpm did you start the pull at? Cause it looks like it wasnt even wide open till like 4500 at least..I mean, 145hp at 4200rpm? Really? Thats 2.0 NA power...

Im gonna guess wastegate malfunction.

I have the .82 houtside. The kit itself like I said has maybe 700 miles on it. It has the Tial 44mm wg. The shop I take it to boost leak tested it to something like 35psi and no leaks.

Car spikes to a little past 2 bar. Babi at ForceFed in Fayetteville tuned it.

Thing that's weird is I made something like 417wtq at like 3800rpm on my 50trim. Same tuner.

This car frustrates me. Sometimes it feels great when it drives. Other times it feels like I'm driving with the A/C on (that's the only way I know how to describe it) when it's not. Like I have to rev more and give more gas just to keep up with traffic in the lower rpms.

I've had an Evo of some sort since 2006, but I'm strongly considering a C6Z06 now.

I'd recommend swapping to a .63 hotside. It will help spool a bit earlier and at your power level it will not hurt your top end. Can you give me more details on the car IE: a full modification list such as what intake manifold, etc...? It could be the tune, the setup, or possibly both.

If you would like to bring the car to Judge Racing, we can certainly get the powerband to your liking. We are the leaders in the Mitsubishi competition in Tampa.

retune the car. u can have the best parts money can buy, if the tune is not right the car will not perform right.

alpha@indunction performance can help u/tune it right.

Here's a revision of what I said before as far as mods go:

TurboTrix 2.3L (Eagle rods, Wiseco 9.0:1 pistons), ETS 3582R turbo with tubular mani and rest of kit (Tial 44mm wg, ETS wg dump, downpipe and LICP), PTE 1000 inj, Injen intake and UICP, ETS 3.5" FMIC, 3" catless exhaust (it's a mix of greddy, apexi and custom race pipe), Spoolin' Up COP, HKS 264/272 cams (old style...yeah I know they suck) and headstuds, Forge Recirc BOV, Hallman MBC, Odyssey Mini battery with new ground wires.

Has new plugs gapped correctly (I'm not getting spark blow-out or sputtering of any nature). As far as power is concerned that's pretty much the gist of it.

Has stock throttle body, stock IM, EGR bypassed and the head is stock besides the bullshit cams and headstuds. Just had both front axles replaced. Neither were broke, but one was pretty worn. Decided to do both for the hell of it.

My wideband jumps from 13.5 to 15.0 at idle sometimes. It hovers between 14.5 and 15.1 mostly though. It had an exhaust leak sometime back and I had a new test pipe made for it. If it's cracked again I'm just going to have the entire cat-back welded to together to become one piece. Boost seems to be right on par with what he tuned it for though.

I do know that this dyno gets a lot of people pretty butt hurt so I'm happy it made 450 on it. I'm just trying to figure out what to do with the thing. It's a lot less fun to daily drive at this point (I don't daily drive it, but if I did it would be less fun). The car was about to go down this coming week to build the tranny and TC, but if I can't get it to run the way I want it to I'd rather not waste the money...

I don't see anything wrong with the combination of parts you have listed. Imo, a .63 hotside and a retune would wake it up a bit down low. Regardless, a standard 35r setup will not have the down low response of a 50trim. If you would like to change your setup, and have the best of both worlds, we would be happy to make that happen for you.

What kind of setup do you have in mind?? I might be interested, but at the same time I don't know how much I want to buy another kit since I just bought this one brand new just a few months ago. I've seen 2.3L spool up 35R's better that's why I went with this kit. I was planning on building the head to rev the car out a bit more. I wasn't expecting it to rev like the 50trim, but to give up like 1500rpm in spool?? And make poor NA power below boost??

I would say it would depend on the setup and the price. I'm not hurting for money, but at the same time I'm not one to spend frivolously and wastefully on a car. If it's something where I can sell my turbo to recoup a lot of the cost (since it has so few miles on it) then it would interest me. If it involves selling most of my setup and having a huge chunk of money in the difference in price then I would pass. I'd rather sell the car than go that route. I love this car and hate it at the same time!
