Default Previouse EVO engine the same as Eclipse GST?

Sup, I don't really know shit about Mitsu cars because I am a Nissan fanatic. I could probably find this answer if I did some research but I thought it would be quicker to ask the pros here.

Is the Mitsu Lancer EVO engines the same as the Eclipse GST engines? What are the differences other than the all-wheel drive transmission of course?

I do know the EVO engine has a higher HP output. Do people swap the EVO engine into the Eclipse at all or is it best to just upgrade the GST engine and it will do the same thing?

Thanks for any info,
Derek

Evo 1-3 motors drops into 2nd generation DSM, Evo 4-8 have a different design, they flipped the head, and the tranny bolts to the other side of the motor, if you wanted it to fit, it'd take a whole helluva alot of work....evo motor makes more power cause it has a stronger fuel system and stronger turbo, 560cc (somethin like that) injectors and a Big 16G turbo, any other dsm w/ the same stuff set up properly will make the same horsepower....just for the record...the fastest evo's were the Evo III

Hey, thanks a lot for the info. I feel enlightened

I can't believe the EVO VI does 0-60 in 4.3 secs that is pretty damn good for a 3000LBS car.

As a DSM owner I would like to say...

"What's a swap? I've never heard of that"

lol, just playin, real truth is, DSM people are cheap and fast, we don't do swaps, there's no point. The Evo motor is a little better than the American 4G63 (evo head is pretty nice), but it's too damn expensive and Clay can tell you, finding parts for it is a bitch. And the parts are expensive too.

We do things cheap. We do things fast. Leave the slow expensive shit to the hondas.

yea, its called "Go buy a 4g64 bottom end and use OEM parts"

but i wouldnt worry about it, the word is its complicated if you dont know what your doing, stick with the 4g63, much power can be had and abused for very cheap...

look at it this way, if you bought the stroker kit, you'd have more torque, maybe a little more hp, because of higher compression and quicker spool up on your turbo...if you spent that same amount of cash on the 4g63...12's are in your future.

It is a DSM, stop trying to swap it

I have a suggestion, if you spend over 1000 dollars on one single part in a DSM (and it's not a FP Red turbo or Indy Race Core FMIC), you know you've done something wrong.

If you want a swap, buy a honda... or ford, or chevy, or nissan, ect.

Is it that hard to believe people run 10s in these cars (which cost aprox $2500) with the factory block? Come on, it's a DSM.
