that has potential to be pretty sweet.

assuming you are going to steel tube it out so the chassis doesn't flex all over the place, and so you don't die when you hit something, right?

my only thoughts would be compensating for the weight shift. Between the glass and the rest of the body you're cutting out, think that would shift the weight bias enough to the front to make it a pain to drive? I'm almost thinking the rear end would be too light.

rear truck wall, and rear cage should be about the same weight as some glass and a hatch... if not, i'll put a forward facing bucket seat against the "tail gate", complete with end table and lamp for any spectators that want to ride along....

please keep your drink on the coaster.

I think if it was reinforced with quality materials, and caged/tubed, the front to rear weight bias wouldnt be that greatly affected because of the added weight of the steel plate/ tubing being used. Thats just my thoughts, not backed up by any facts, or research. lol

yeah, exactly, i'll be using enough metal in the rear corners to offset the weight... and you have to think, the caging in the car isn't going to be about safety, or passing D1 tech inspections, it's going to be about structural reinforcements in commonly impacted areas, front and rear corners.

Yep, it greatly increases structural rigidity. And then on top of that, the increase of overall car control and feel during any sort of driving. This will be pretty cool when done.

lol, it would be kinda neat!

well, made some progress on the car today with a buddy of mine... probably stripped off over 70lbs of unneeded crap... gutted what was left of the interior, gutted out all the AC/HVAC stuff from under the dash, unneeded wiring (speakers, AC etc etc etc), and took out a bunch of shit from the engine bay that wasn't needed, hardlines, AC condenser blah blah blah...

on with the pics...

starting...

getting the dash/AC stuff out...

pile getting bigger...

dash back in...

getting the bay cleaned up a bit, pretty much done here before final stripping, paint, reassembly (yes tommy, i'm painting the engine bay, WITH RATTLE CAN WTFZOMG)...

final pile of shit...

carpets fubar, but it's yours if you want it...

made some progress today... got an entire front end, uncracked S13 dash, and pretty much any part i need off a chuki shell... and all i had to do for all this, was to let the guy drive my GTR to his house, a 4 mile trip.... not bad if i don't say so myself, AND he put $10 gas it!!!

anyways, here's the front!

little damage on the pass side.. who cares, prob gonna get way more F'd up on the track anyways...

starting to look like a car now.... next up, sanding the car down, and doing the Battleship Dazzle Camo paint scheme!!

probably gonna be selling/trading the mint S13 dash for Call of Duty Black Ops, and $50, so if ya'll know anyone, hol-ler...
