Well, I got a chance to work on the engine a little bit this afternoon. I was able to get the head bolted up and the cams back in. I still need to throw my Tomei cam gears on and get them degree'd in but that will come in due time. I need to get my trans rebuilt, which I've been contemplating over a lot. I may just say screw it and buy a 98+ spec Z32 trans, swap my bellhousing and call it a day. Pictures of recent progress.

For the price of the 98+ Z32 trans, i'd seriously be considering just having an adapter plate made to bolt a T56 to an auto SR bellhousing.

I hear what you are saying but I already have all the needed items for the Z32 trans. Not to mention a exedy twin disk. Don't feel like putting all that stuff up forsale or dealing with the hassle of it. It's just an idea right now though.

What dia discs does the exedy use ? If they're 7.25" like plenty of other multiplates, a replacement pair of disc's wouldnt cost much at all, might have a chance to come out ahead after selling off the Z32 trans stuff.

They are 200mm plates which translates into roughly 7.9" disks. I was searching for 98 spec bearings/synchros for the trans, but what I have come up with is that they are a hard to get ahold of and about $800, then add labor on top of that and a new trans wasn't looking so bad... I think once the trans is rebuilt it'll be fine for awhile, as I have no idea how many miles were on this trans to begin with.

Thanks Z350, but I already have the Mazworx Z32>SR kit... I just have the infamous 4th gear grind and it drives me bat-shit crazy.

Well, more work was completed... I installed the cam gears, however I need to take it somewhere to get it degreed in. Anyone have an clue as to where to take it besides Mazworx? I wouldn't mind taking it there, but it's a 4hr round trip just to drop my engine off, then picking it back up is another 4hr trip. Piece of mind there though, knowing that they know exactly what the hell they are doing. The bottomend is all sealed up now that the oil pan is on. I modified my upper coolant neck for the VVL head. It no longer has the mount that bolts to the side of the SR20DET heads. I milled it off and sanded it down. Then I bead blasted it to give it the factory cast appearance. I also was able to get the VC painted and cleared. I think it turn out great, but you guys can be the judge of it. Pictures!

Did the det crank pulley fit? I read the writeup and they said it needed to be modded. I think the timing marks just don't line up anymore but I'm not sure.

The DET pulley had to be milled down because the VVL oil pump is longer than the DET's. There is a small spacer that goe behind the crank pulley as well which took me a while to figure out. I'd tighten up on the crank nut and nothing would rotate. I was like WTF, then I figured it out. I'm not sure about the timing marks, but I can tell you that if you lined it up with the second mark from the left you are not at TDC on cyl 1. I'm rotated a bit further to the right, but there is a knotch there that lines up with the timing indicator on the front cover, perhaps for the "new TDC?
