SR exhaust question and JDM question...
SR exhaust question and JDM question...
Well, on my 94 classic I have a HotShot header(best in the market) and a stock cat all the way back. The previous owner didn't care too much for a noisey exhausy, so he kept it that way. My main question is, what kind of pro's and con's will I have if I decide to throw on an aftermarket catback? I really like my torque, is it gonna drop much? And, am I reaping any benefits having a header with stock exhaust?
Oh, to make the subject easier to deal with, I also have a CAI and reprogrammed ECU by JWT, running 93 octane all the time(required).
My other question would be:
What's different between a
USDM SR20DE and a JDM SR20DE?
Or, is it just for bragging rights, "I've got JDM!!"

depends on the year of the japanese sr20de, but some of them have higher compression.
i believe they are all high port as well.

The Japanese SR20DE is pretty much the same as the 1991-1993 US SR20DE. The Main difference is the lack of the Emissions parts. All Japanese SR20DE's are Highport, like the 91-93 SR20's. On some Japense SR20DE's there is a Large factory exhaust manifold that is a lot bigger than the Factory US Manifold.
Some SR20 motors came with a 10:1 compression, which is higher than the factory 9.5:1 compression that the US motors have. These motors normally come from the United Kingdom, and are highports with a Red valve cover like the DET's have.
And as many people know the Japanese motors normally have low milage. But thats what is different on Japense SR20DE's vs US SR20DE's.

I personally don't think an exhaust is needed for our cars until you either spray nitrous or go turbo. I have ridden in many se-r's, all with different mods, and I think the exhaust doesn't make it feel as strong. It does pull harder up high, like on the interstate.
I convinced a friend to take off the exhaust on his 93 SE-R and he likes it a lot more now.

Thanks for all the info guys, I'm more than happy the way it is now, exhaust will come soon enough with my upcoming swap.
