I worked hard to get shots of Ike's swell between site meetings during the week, but I got out early today with hopes of catching some action before it faded for good!

I once again headed out about 20-30 yards into the surf with my 70-200mm L. She's all clean now and getting over the effects of another salting!

This is 6 year-old Christian Daniels who, according to him, has been surfing since he was 18 months-old. I have other shots of him that I havent processed yet, they will eventually make it to my flickr. He was fearless when he was able to make it out past the break, competing for 5-8ft waves with the big guys - I think I have shots of him stealing a wave or two.

Well, I don't know how you do it (or what your camera settings are), but all of these are incredible.

Maybe I'm just shooting on the wrong setting.

I know it seems foolish, but I'm not getting these kind of shots from the shore at 200mm, so you gotta do what you gotta do - just don't drop it!!

Mike, the biggest difference I see is that you shot some big swells but during grey, overcast conditions. During both Gustav and Ike, I intentionally waited for bright, sunny conditions to shoot in. This may have meant smaller swells, but bright, sharp shots with good contrast. Your shots have great clarity and composition, just down on color and contrast.
