Default Couple questions before my Canon arrives.

Just ordered a Canon 50d and thought I would check into a flash. Doesn't have to be a Canon brand flash just as long as it gets the job done. Is there a flash somebody can recommend? I was looking at the Canon 580 flash, but a bit spendy for me at the moment. (50d empted the wallet. ) Next question. What memory card is suggested? (Not sure what to look for in a memory card.) and the last question. The camera kit is coming with the 28-135 IS lens. If you were able to get one more lens, what would it be? Is the one coming with the kit good enough for close ups and all around general picture taking?
Please let me know if there is any questions I need to answer to help with your suggestions.
Thanks guys....

I'm a fan of always sticking with OEM. Minus lenses lol We've all got a couple of Sigmas and Tamrons and they're all real decent, however once you get into some longer zoom lenses off-brand, they become a bit slower and dont focus as well and arent typically as sharp. You may want something a little more towards the wide angle. Most of us have the Sigma 10-20, but there are lots of options for that range. But if you wanna go wide you're looking at another 400+ easily...

As for the flash, pick up a 430!

Michael, Thanks for the reply. I checked in to what you have suggested. The 430, is a lot more in my price range. At the moment, would you feel the 10-20 lens is more important then getting the flash? I was thinking yes since the camera comes with somewhat of a flash. Would the 10-20 lens be good for car and family picture taking?
Thanks again for your reply and help.

Well, the kit lens will be better all around for you to start with. So definitely pick up the flash probably first...

Cool deal. you can take pictures of people and family and what not with the SWA's (super wide angle) but it can and will make them look distorted and funny more often than not. You kind of have to learn how to shoot with the lenses because like I said, it can make things looks too weird, so you have to stand just right when taking pictures of cars or interiors and buildings, etc...

Its fun though, you can do some creative stuff with them! But for your people pics you will want the kit lens on it for sure. But try it sometimes with the wide angle and see...
