I wouldnt say it's gay, you just have to hold yourself back from making them too cartoony.

I dont think HDR is necessarily gay, its often overdone to images that don't even require it.

There is a bit of the "halo" effect around the trees on the horizon line.

I just really don't see a point in HDR. If you check your exposures and average them properly, there is no need for HDR.
probably the only HDR photo Ive taken that i liked(colors are a big bright though):
This photo has full dynamic range on a black car, with everything properly exposed, But no HDR(single shot straight out of the camera, no pp).
same with this one, full dynamic range, straight out of the camera, single shot, no pp.
If you understand your exposure and know how to properly use it, there shouldn't be a need for HDR. If you just take the extra seconds and figure out what the proper exposure for your photo is, instead of just snapping the picture based on what your camera tells you, your pictures will turn out a lot better.
