C/C On My Photography Site?
Ah, I just realized you discovered the D40 "scam" Nikon has going on lol! I try to warn people from falling into that trap of getting suckered into a cheap body that does nothing but forces you into buying the more expensive AF-S lenses in the long run. Evil!
So the "Live and Let Die" Band photos were shot with a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6? That's pretty amazing for that aperture! I only have a 50mm f/1.8 for darker venues with a worn out canon body!
Welcome!
It really depends on how close I am and the venue. The band pictures you see posted on my site were simply taken with a kit lens and photoshop. I was able to BE on stage with them.
The live theatre shots were with a Nikkor 85mm 1.8.
I suggest low aperture lenses for indoor performance settings this way you can shoot without flash and use the special lights from the Source Fours, Par cans etc... on the stage.
Hope this helps!

Yeah, I was surprised too at how well those shots came out. Get this, I shot them in jpeg...
The nifty fifty is a great lens. I wanna pick one up in the near future. I'm trying to save up some money for a low aperture short range lens. I have a 35mm f/2 I just would love to have the capability of zooming.
