What exactly are you going to be using the camera for? Either way I would go for the Sony FX1000. Panasonic is coming out with a HMC-40 soon that uses avchd but you'll need a good computer. I think it's going to be around $2500 that would be good option too.

fx1000 is what lots and lots of skateboarders rave about. hope that helps ya

Whoops the HMC-40 is 1/4" sensors so yea FX1000 is good. There's also the Canon XH-A1 that's been around for a couple years that a lot of people like too which should be around the same price as the FX1000.
