I am spending 12 days in France, I want to pack as much as I bring with out-having the bag to heavy since I'm told anything more then 50 lbs they'll charge you. the head is about 9lbs and the sticks might be 6 lbs not to mention suite case, a tux, shoes, & clothes....it all adds up quickly.

So you could afford $8,000 worth of equipment but not the money to send it safely to your destination? I'm all about saving money, but if it were me I'd be taking zero chances.

You could pay for insurance? I'd ask FedEx or UPS what the best option would be I suppose.

Flying to Prague, I carried on my Nikon camera backpack and my Empire backpack and no one said anything. I was pretty psyched that I didnt have to check anything.

Why not see if there is a rental house willing to rent you a tripod. It may be cheaper in the long run.

yes, a female can bring a carry on and a purse..... so, that means by default you can bring a carry on and something purse sized from what i understand. i've carried a large tote w/my purse in it and a camera bag before, no problems. they cant say you cant have a 2nd bag bc youre a guy, or just tell them its your man purse! lol
