Default 50mm 1.8f + Natural Light = dof & fun

Messing around with my new 50mm on my D3000. So all of these were manual focus. Had some fun for sure just messing around and learning the lens. Some pics of my lizards, some marbles, and just randomness.

Constructive Criticism is welcome, but only if you can say it nicely. If you can't don't bother please. I'm posting up here hope there will be NO DRAMA in my thread. I'd like to know that there are some people on here who can contribute to make me better positively.

Anyway, on with the pics!!
1. Dirty Crystal glass with some marbles

2. Full house?

3. T-Rex (Green Anole)

4. T-Rex being a badass

5. Barky chilling on my phone (Bark Anole)

6. Depth of Field....Nom Nom

7.

8.

9.

10. One of my Favorites

11. Another of my Favorites

12. Phone

13. Big Marble

14. I feel like I may have missed focus by millimeters...

That's all I have for now.

Focus seems off in a few of them. I like #4 could use a little sharpening.

Yeah, I didn't know if I wanted to touch that up too much or not. I only added a very tiny bit of saturation because he came out a bit too light.

I'm still learning this lens, and it's hard doing it completely manual without a tripod at the moment.

Looks good, work with what you have. Manual focus is what I shoot on all the time, you can't beat it.

You should try adjusting your aperture a little bit so you can get your entire subject in focus (lizards, specifically). Some of them have too little DOF.

I'm assuming like the one with Barky on the phone? I wanted that picture to come out a little better, but he wasn't wanting to work with me very much. T-Rex is much easier to work with.

I'm also assuming if I had it at 2.8f for the pic of T-Rex from the side, he would've come into focus with the whole body?

some look a tab bit soft.
id also mess with the f# a bit. when i take pics of my hedgehog with the 35mm i can get his whole face in focus at 1.8 but you have to go to 2.8 to get his whole body. also get a tripod. that would help you a lot when manual focusing

Yeah, I want to get T-Rex looking good.

I had a tripod, left it in my buddies car when we went to an Auto-X a few months ago. Never got it back. I'm going to order one I've had my eye on from Amazon for a little while now.
