Hey I noticed/remembered you had a T-25 Garrett turbo on your car. While I was browsing some DSM stuff I came along this link. I have heard alot of good things about this mild upgrade turbo. Looks just like a T-25. Its a common upgrade for 2G DSMs that dont want a non-stock looking turbo. Just thought Id pass it along to you.

no way in hell that guy ran 12.7 on pump gas with a T-25. I dont believe it.

My T-25 could hold 18psi with no problems. How old is it?

Im running a Garret T25/T04B(oil and water cooled)

Additional Engine Specs....

SR20DET Specs
Displacement: 1999cc (2.0 liter)
Cam type: DOHC 16 valve chain driven cam sprockets
Bore and stroke: 86mm x 86mm
Compression: 8.5 : 1
Horsepower: 205hp at 6000rpm
Torque: 203 ft/lbs at 4000rpm
Stock boost: 7 psi
Throttle body bore: 60mm
Turbo: Garret T25/T04B
Injector size: 370cc/min

My engine/turbo package was imported over from Japan. Most are probably just taken out when the cars are junked overseas. Supposedly the engines only have around 40000 - 50000 on the clock but you never know for sure.

Currently my boost is all over the place.
Setting my Greddy Profec with the fuzzy logic to .9 bar I usually only see around 10psi midrange sometimes jumping to around 12psi then always falling off back to 7-9psi at the top of the rev range.

The car also starts smoking after sitting and idling for a few minutes. When I take off the smoke goes away. Running hard I dont see a hint of smoke only after sitting and idling for a minute or two. Its not using any oil but does seem to be using a small amount of coolant.

My best guess is the turbo is shot??

What do you guys think?

I saw an engine importing page not too long ago that said there is a Japanese law that requires engines to be replaced every 40k or 50k miles. Ill see if I can find it..

There should be a 10psi wastegate spring inside the turbo. Mine was set at that. Electronic boost controllers can do funny things especially the fuzzy logic kind. Many people just go with the manual because they dont f**k up and give you an unsteady amount of boost. If the turbo has gone bad it will make a howling noise and/or blue smoke will shoot out of the exhaust under WOT.

Ive had vacuum leaks that do similar things. What kind of vacuum does your car pull? (not that I know what it should be though)..

Thats quite a bit of boost for the stock fuel system/computer isnt it? Any idea what kind of A/F ratio youre running? Maybe its been running too lean..

That kind of sounds like it might be the engine although maybe the turbo. Does your exhaust smell kind of sweet? If it was a small leak it would have visable smoke at idle or low speed. When you get the turbo going its sort of blowing the smoke away before you see it with all of the additional exhaust.

I dont know enough about your engine/turbo to tell you where coolant would be leaking in and getting burned. Just another $.02... good luck with it!

Its not a T-25. Its an upgraded T-28/T28. Flows like a 16G but look like a T-25. Look at the wheels same as 16G.
