.54 trim vs. 60-1 hifi
.54 trim vs. 60-1 hifi
im think about switching my .54 trim compressor wheel out for a 60-1 and im curious what kinda of power increase this should yield and if its worth it. the specs of my turbo right now are:
Turbonetics T3/T4E
.54 trim compressor wheel
.63 A/R turbine housing
stage 3 turbine wheel
just looking for a few opinions. positives vs. negatives mainly
btw this on a Honda DOHC VTEC motor pushing anywhere in between 7-17psi

I can only speak for what Charlie has told me, and what Ive seen from Garage advance. Garage Advance made 308whp on a STOCK D16Y8 @ 16psi and race gas (110 octane?).
Charlie told me it would be a great turbo to run with the t4b compressor housing and my t3 (.48ar) exhaust housing, I would lose very little spool time and gain A LOT of power. (over my .42 ar) You should notice a good gain seeing as that you run 16psi anyhow, and they're very efficient. From the cooler air alone you should notice good gains. Not to mention the extra CFM.
Hope this helps a bit, and if anyone has anything to add/rebutt, please do.

I dont know if you are looking to sell yours and buy a new turbo or rebuilding yours. if i was you i would dump the turbonetics turbo and get a higher end precision turbo for less $$$. the new precision turbo line features Gt technology and will make more power at the same boost levels as your turbonetics i promise you. the best turbo for your app is a an sc61 precision turbo. youll see full boost at about 5k. hoep this helps. dave doesnt really have the bottom end for an sc61 , the 60-1 el cheapo upgrade will be just what he needs / wants.

60-1 is pretty damn inefficient and heats up the air alot. thats why Turbonetics doesnt even post efficiency numbers on its compressor map for the 60-1. the 60-1 wheel is the same, its just the compressor housing that changes. the 60-1 wheel is even LESSSS efficient inside the HIFI than it is in the Standard TO4E cover... but still inefficient.
get a 57trim... or a 62-1... but a 60-1 is just whack. and if youc an find it... try to get some kind of exhuast housing between your .63 and a .48... cuz the.63 is gonna be pretty damn laggy, and the .48 will just be super spooly and choke off your top end.
