1991 Honda CRX: Custom fab'd turbo kit & wire tuck
Customer came in to have us fabricate a custom turbo kit for his spotless CRX.
We started her up and noticed something didnt sound quite right. We were told the engine was recently built and shouldnt have any issues. A quick compression check after long warm up and we found there was definitely a compression issue.
cyl 1 200psi
cyl 2 200psi
cyl 3 200psi
cyl 4 100psi
After performing a leakdown test it was pretty clear the exhaust valves were def to blame.
(The owner tells us the engine had previous issues of bent valves so it didnt suprise him )
We advise to solve the low compression issue before moving forward with any turbo fabrication.
so it is what it is, time for disassembly

Unfortunitly the engine was improperly assembled/bored by a local machine shop. Had to pull and send back for inspection.
The machine shop confirmed the 2 bent exhaust valves we advised. Once the head was pulled it was pretty clear the piston to wall clearance was WAY too much. So we had the owner come and pick up the block as well.
The pistons had an 1/4" of play. Yes, i just used an inch (") abbreviation.
Updates soon !

Just a little update on this thread. Customer returned the engine to the machine shop. They confirmed the piston to wall was .007, and the 2 bent exhausts valves on cyl num 4. Since things didnt go to well at the machine shop the first time we decided to go a different route
We have located a block and plan to send it out for machining this week ! Hopefully we can start on the turbo build soon...
Pics of the teardown.. Royal purple break in oil all wasted
