The bottom line is this in FL a 1.8t timing belt should be changed no later then 85K since it doesnt get cold and hot like lets say ny the belts last longer. But the belt isnt the issue its the water pump the impellars are plastic and will go out at any time. The only reason i am writing this is because i have a 04 gli with 49k and my water pump went out last week. Let me tell you if you can find someone to do the labor for 250.00 jump all over it and give him a kiss when your done. I did it myself and it took about 8 hours. Most vw shops charge between 75-100 a hour so lets do math its a 6 hour job on the books...thanks sorry to mess up your tread since i already have a gli no need for another head ache lol

I love that car. Good luck with your sale.

For the Record I traded in my last A4 (2003) 1.8T at 1ooK miles and I never changed the T-Belt. I limped it in to the dealer as it was leaking water mysteriously and overheating so I'm betting thats when the water pump was going.

Wife deserved a B7 A4 so my tiing was very good. This time I bought the maintinance plan that replaces everything until my CPO warranty runs out at 100K including oil changes. I got a letter saying my 2.0 DOESN'T need a t-belt until around 100k I think.

well my 05 broke at 94k(before i bought it) i strongly belive the belt should be done at 60K miles. because the previous owner got to pay for a whole brand new head from VW. im sure it cost him atleast 2500 to fix it.
