Open track times @ Sebring
Open track times @ Sebring
Anyone know if they allow true open track dates @ Sebring? Everything seems to be by reservation only. It also seems per the Sebring site you must be a member of the SCCA to run on the long track
Sebring-
Because of liability and safety issues, its easier and probly cheaper to go with a club like BMW, PORSCHE, or another club to hold an event for the whole track(corner workers, food/drinks provided, many cars on track at the same time, etc.). Chin motorsports just had a full track day a few weekends ago. Apparently they fill the slots quickly and all kinds of cars are allowed to attend. I constantly keep my eyes open for open track days there but because the 12 hour race is coming up in 3 months, you'll see more open days AFTER March......in the meantime join NASA-X and come to an Autocross in ST Pete! They are a blast and only cost $35 to enter as opposed to the $250-300 rate for a Sebring day. If I see another track day for a full coarse Sebring event I'll post it ASAP.
You can run with Chin Motorsports at Sebring. They do a track day there about once a month (long course). Other times they move to other venues. You get more track time with this group then almost any of the others. You just need a helmet with a recent Snell rating. You certify that your own car has been through all of the tech items on their list - they will not tech you except for a few small things.
I ran there in November and there was a wide variety of cars. From an Olds Achieva all the way to 2 Vipers from the Speed Channel Challenge series. Yes - you do run at the same time. Its pretty humbling when you are doing 130 and the Viper comes up on you at 190! It also allows you to get experience with traffic management, which is good if you are going to race wheel to wheel someday. That said, everyone is allowed to go at their own pace. You WILL have an instructor in the car for your first time out, and likely for a few outings. Once they are satisfied, you can go solo.
I used to autocross, but I got tired of standing around all day for 4 minutes of fun. You will get hours of track time with Chin.

+1
I have done two Chin events at Sebring. They are professional and put on a nice event. You will have some classroom time which is very beneficial. The instructors know their stuff, especially on braking, apex's, etc. I even graduated to Solo. Just the variety of cars running is worth the trip and the people are super cool.

I run alot of the intruction critera at the Chin events, and if anyone is interested they, by question only, are going to offer professional insruction for a fee. Rather than a normal instructor there you get a current Professional Driver in the seat next to you. Chin is by far the best bang for the buck when it comes to track time. Right around 5 hours a day, that is plenty to wear one out. I've been to alot them... not with my subaru but with some of our teams cars. I think i've seen mantra tearing it up quite a bit actually. Also I believe it's the only on track expierence that doesn't require more than a normal drivers licsence. Also you always run the long track there, i know someone mentioned that farther up... I too am not affiliated with them in any way...Just had the oppurtunity to teach a thing or two to the current instructor field.
