Default June 20 2020 at The Keystone Motor Club meeting held at Winn Dixie 17649 Gunn Highway

On June 20 2020 at The Keystone Motor Club meeting held at Winn Dixie
17649 Gunn Highway and Van Dyke Road, East side of parking lot.
-------------------------------
Our Highly Informal Strictly Voluntary newsletter is here: (over 11,000 views)

https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/e...or-club-5.html
-------------------------------

A week prior to the meeting, we cleared away some of the underbrush. Thank you to all who helped.
On Meeting day Milt Roorda hauled a lot of it away and placed some temporary meeting signs
on each side of the "notch". That may have encouraged the automotive street turkeys not to fill the
spaces we took...or maybe the stinking armadillo aroma scared them off. Gen Rummy found the
armadillo and tossed it far from our spot, although the aroma lingered a bit. The aroma won't be there
next time thanks to some local turkey buzzards.
-------------------------------
We had acquired sixteen 5 gallon buckets of dirt, for a total of 80, thanks to Attorney Michael Snively of Snively Law. Dirt was spread where bottles, cans, and underbrush once was.
Thanks to Gen Rummy's pickup truck usage and all who helped. There will be a few more
deliveries of dirt filling some ruts at our meeting spot before the August meeting.
4 buckets from Lowes said "Doing it Right".
--------------------------------
Milt Roorda had mounted the Keystone sign that Jan Nelson got permission for, from Winn Dixies manager. It's lit and on a post next to where we hold our meetings. This is approximately what it says:
KEYSTONE MOTOR CLUB
meets every 3rd Saturday
10AM -NOON 813-839-4281
or 813-452-7807
---------------------------
Vic Piano was Guest MC for the meeting (GMC) and joked about proper preparation of road kill armadillo.
Vic also donated some trash bags to the Keystone Motor Club. Bob Vail is temporarily holding the club's trash bags.
Milt and Rosemary Roorda brought a few antique honest-to-gosh metal toys for display on their antique table,
We talked about having a driving tour. Milt and Vic had two types of suggestions.
Maybe the next step would be to plan specifically where to go and add to the ideas/suggestions.
--------------
If anyone has some leftover small amounts of liquid Roundup, the club has a good use for it.
---------------------------
We need someone reliable on a regular basis to call Dick Peterson for meeting notifications. He has no computer usage. I have his number.
Further meeting suggestions are welcome and will be passed on. If you have thoughts, make them known.
Email me, text me, call me or post in the newsletter. We are willing to listen.
----------------------------------------------
The 50/50 drawing was operated by Alan Mevorah and $20 went into the gas tank of Bob Carter's '57 Chevy. lol ...actually Bob Carter donated the $20 back to the club. Thanks, Bob Carter!
----------------------
Hey Bob, thank you for running these nice pics. (sent in member emails) Actually, he donated the 20 bucks back to KMC to help offset some reason expenses.-Alan
----------------------
Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
No one said a word to me and I was not aware of any donation since there were no
expenses and I only got the club's part. I stapled the $20 to the sign-in sheet as well as acknowledged that I was holding it for the club. I also posted in the Keystone newsletter that I was holding it temporarily. This is that post.
-Bob
-----------------------
Bob Vail stapled the $20 to the sign-in list, and will hold it temporarily until we have voted up a treasurer.
(We know where he lives lol )

The roll of 50/50 tickets was given to Rosemary Roorda to hold until the next Keystone meeting on July 18 2020.
----------------------------------------------
Vic Piano is still the keeper of the table and tent for when we need them.
Milt Roorda is the current keeper of the banner.
-----------------------------------------------
I see a trend of a meeting format with:
1.starting with socializing and BS'ing, about cars, then
2.discussing anything/business previously brought up, car events attended, then
3.discussing any fresh ideas/new business currently being brought up, future car events, then
4.Personal Items for sale, trade or Want-to-buy.
5.other commercial companies which members recommend, and as always........buying from Winn Dixie if possible.
If we need to add/delete/rearrange categories, let me know.........If I leave anything out, let me know.
-------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------

The KMC meeting was the coolest place in town! (Thanks to Milt's air conditioned....July 18 2020 meeting/50-50/Auto History Book//Pinewood race cars/KMC Tours planning

Keystone Motor Club newsletter has over 11,000 views: WE are the car scene!
The highly informal strictly voluntary newsletter of the Keystone Motor Club - Tampa Racing
-------------------
To continue getting meeting notices, it is a good idea to sign in at a KMC car club meeting periodically, or to say HI ! in the newsletter, so we know you are interested. And if your interest goes away,
just tell us "Get me the hell out of those meeting notices!" and it will happen. lol
----------------
On July 18 2020 The KMC meeting was the coolest place in town! (Thanks to Milt's air conditioned garage) Refreshments consisted of Ice Tea, lemonade, plus home made brownies from Carol Prentice and some snacks from Gen Rummy.
-----------------
The 50-50 was operated by Rosemary Roorda and Alan Mevorah and won by Gen Rummy who donated $7 to the club. Bob Vail stapled it to the sign-in sheet and noted it in the newsletter, post # 245.
-----------------
Fred Humberstone, a friend of Vic Piano; brought a book of significant automotive history and shared it with us. I was busy snapping pics of memorabilia, and the meeting, and missed too much of the book. I hope Fred brings it back again. He may have several others. Pictures will be emailed out in a few days.
--------------
Milt had some never before seen Ford memorabilia and a very historical photo of a dirt track
car race from the 1930's. I wonder who that tall guy is on the left side of the picture....
-------------
Bob Vail displayed pinewood derby race cars and gave the story of how a goofy kid with no father
became a winner, when the purpose of building a race car was not to build a car, but to
spend time with father and son.
------------------
Both Vic and Milt brought up some elements of upcoming driving tours they are planning. For both tours, the best times would be when weather cools off (Jan, Feb,March) when we can DRIVE........out of respect for flatheads and others with higher engine temperatures.

Vic mentioned collecting money for a charity that Cigar City Flatheads car club supports annually by having a tour, and that Vic's other club combined with KMC would increase participation.

I would not be opposed to a similar tour that Milt went on with his Model T club. It sounded like fun.
----------------
Fred Humberstone knows of a British car club that has a New Years day tour along the beaches of Pinellas County and lunch at a restaurant next to the Gulf around New Port Richey. As we get closer to New Years we might look into maybe joining them.
-----------------
KMC Founder Sam Prentice recalled other tours and offered some thoughts.......All people kick in some money to cover ice cream costs for all participants, and then giving a different directions sheet to each car to create further distance and confusion in a sub division before arriving at the tour end. A visual scavenger hunt along the route was mentioned.
---------------
Further suggestion was a tour to Jim Cook's museum.
---------
Another suggestion was a nursing home drive thru parade, maybe with signs, baloons, waving to residents, etcbut maybe when we get off "house arrest", and the social distancing situation improves.
------------------
With the number of meeting females increasing, there is more female conversation
at meetings for those women who do attend.
------------
And folks, if you want to hear funny stories about winning the lottery, 1,000 cows and "Used to own a truck like that"........ you are just going to have to stop by our meetings..... lol
----------------
The next 3rd Saturday KMC meeting is August 15 2020.
-----------------
Pics from Milt's Garage will be coming soon.....but only if you are getting the keystone emailed meeting notices.
-------------------
Meeting attendees---------------and car attendees ---------------July 18 2020:

Default Keystone Motor Club Minutes of August 15, 2020 Guest Master of Ceremonies, Vic Piano

Keystone Motor Club Minutes of August 15, 2020

Guest Master of Ceremonies, Vic Piano, welcomed the 11 attendees after all had signed the roster. Rosemary and Milt provided the a/c hospitality in their garage. Thank you! Vic brought a huge box of old Rod and Custom and Trendsetter magazines to share with other members. Carol brought her famous chocolate brownies and everyone said, “Yummy!”

  • IMG_1323.JPG
    148.4kB
  • In the middle of the meeting it began to rain and all members hurriedly exited the meeting to roll up car windows. There was no old business. Master of Ceremonies, Vic Piano made the suggestion to make it optional to reimburse those who provided treats for our meetings. It was tabled for a later date.

  • IMG_1324.JPG
    168kB
  • The new fresh business was a suggestion for a next year travel tour. Many clubs charge $100 per person for a money raiser, but Vic suggested that a $25 limit might be more affordable to our members. The Traveling car show was postponed until a later date.
Sharing personal items for sale or items that members wanted to buy was interesting. Three members were wearig hearing aids and Vic said he was thinking about acquiring a pair, so this is a sample of conversation. One member had a friend who had a 1957 Chevy for sale. Another member needed a carburetor for a 1974 Super Beetle. Anyone want any more car magazines? Other members can also bring some magazines to recycle among members.Hi Bob. We missed some people at the meeting. You’ll get an official minutes but yes we’re meeting in September at Winn-Dixie. Good thinking. . Even though it was only a 15% chance of rain today it literally poured right in the middle of the meeting time. So it was good we were inside rather than outside. The winner of 50-50 donated $8 to the club.
See u next time...... Alan
----------------
The 50-50 raffle was operated by Alan Mevorah and won by Jeanne Montgomery. Afterward she contributed $8 to our $27 balance in the treasury, making a total of $35. Thank you Jeanne! ....and thank you to all who participated. Bob Vail is temporarily holding the $35.
--------------------------
Our next meeting is at Winn Dixie on Sept. 19, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.
17649 Gunn Highway and Van Dyke Road, East side of parking lot "notch" next to our sign.
Social distance with us, Drive through and blow your horn, or back in, open your hood and hang out
for a bit. We are outdoors and masks will be optional with no judgements. We may set up the tent
for some shade.

Meeting adjourned.
Thanks to Gen Rummy for these minutes, pictures, and some snacking food.

Bob……Is this from you? Who is Gen Rummy?
----------------------------
From Gen Rummy: Calling all ladies:
WOK, which stands for Women of Keystone, will have their first meeting Sept. 19. Winn Dixie 17649 Gunn Highway and Van Dyke Road, East side of parking lot. Just bring your own lawn chair, and one mystery inexpensive fun swap item with a fall or back to school theme, in a plain paper bag. So what if the men will start calling us the "Bag Ladies," Who cares? Each meeting the WOK will decide what item to bring to our next meetings in Oct. Nov. and Dec. We can tell stories and describe our prizes. Think of the possibilities of a scavenger hunt in Winn Dixie, a recipe swap, or plant exchange. How about a specific color item or those from an alphabet list? Oh, what fun things we will do! See all the WOK on Sept. 19.

Default What we did Sept 19 2020: The KMC 3rd Saturday meeting at Winn Dixie

What we did Sept 19 2020: The KMC 3rd Saturday meeting at Winn Dixie
The Highly Informal, Strictly Voluntary Keystone Motor Club newsletter has over 13,000 views:
WE are the car scene!
click: https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/e...or-club-5.html
-------------------
To continue getting meeting notices and photos, it is a good idea to periodically sign in at a KMC car club meeting, or to say HI ! in the newsletter, so that we know you are still interested. And if your interest goes away, just tell us "Get me the hell out of those meeting notices!"
and it will happen. lol
----------------
On Sept 19 2020 The KMC 3rd Saturday meeting was at 17649 Gunn Hwy and Van Dyke Road 33556 in the Winn Dixie parking lot. 10AM till Noon...At the East side "notch" of the parking lot. W-D had some ready made ham and cheese sandwiches in the deli that were good for lunch.
----------------
Ice, drinks plus some snacks came from Gen Rummy, who also handled the greeting, sign-ins, and the WOK (women of Keystone). Gen had typed up a prototype notice for attendees to look over and make suggestions. The notices of our upcoming meetings will be placed on car seats at other car shows and car meets.
----------------
We shot some car BS for about an hour. There were some new people with cars which we had not seen. Milt had arrived earlier and placed some of our signs at our meeting spot and one at the road. Milt also cleaned up the place a little and removed the junk TV that someone had dumped in our spot. We are trying to keep our spot clean and we thank you Sir!
Following the Sept 19 meeting, Milt is retaining the signs for the club.
-----------------
It was interesting to see Vic's V12 1939 flathead (I never knew there was a V12 flathead) with the center split shared exhaust ports, and the fabricated prototype PVC valve,....and to learn that the glass jar (it really was glass) on the firewall........... was filled with Marvel Mystery Oil and plumbed to the carb spacer.

Why? An overhead valve engine has the valves upside down compared to a modern V8, and when stock, some smoke comes out at startup and again at shut down because of the oiling system. V8's have oil naturally draining down hill so modern V8's are always oiled.
-----------------
The 50-50 was operated by Alan Mevorah and the first door prize was won by Bob Vail.
Bob looked into the bag and exclaimed: There's a $20 bill in my bag!
Vic said: "Bob, I just now dropped a 20 into the first bag and I want it back!"
Bob said: "Vic, If your $20 had a rubber band around it, I'll give you back the rubber band!"

After door prize bags were given out, all tickets were put back on the table face down, shuffled and the 50/50 ticket was drawn.
Clouded with cries of "rigged" and "Boos" from the crowd, Bob won the 50/50! Boooo.
With sweat running down his face and visions of boiling tar and some feathers at the next meeting on October 17,
Bob donated $15 to the club, bringing our total treasury to a whole $50.
and this is the public acknowledgement at post # 284 in the Keystone newsletter: Bob is voluntarily holding the total amount of $50 for the club.
----------------
Pictures from Sept 19 will be emailed out in a few days. We could use a different volunteer to take pictures (with cell phone or otherwise) for the October 17 meeting and send them to me.
--------------
Should we be adding more advance notices to our meetings as a planning tool?

Advance notice:
A British car club is holding a New Years day tour JAN 1 2021 along the beaches of Pinellas County with lunch at a restaurant next to the Gulf somewhere around New Port Richey. As we get closer to New Years Day, we may look into maybe joining and touring with them without interfering, since it is their event and they are organizing it. There will be some great photo ops and a great place for lunch.
At least it was when I went with them last time.
-----------------
Advance notice:
Coming on November 21 there will be some donated free chili and door prizes.
Door prizes may become a regular feature if people donate a few things maybe in advance.--
----------------
The October 3rd Saturday KMC meeting is October 17 2020.
The November 3rd Saturday KMC meeting is November 21.2020.
Social distance with us, drive through and beep your horn, or back in, open your hood
and hang out for a while.
