What happens?
The rear wheels lock up because theengine cant accelerate to road speed RPM fast enough, and the tires get a screetching deceleration from road speed down to engine speed...
You use heel-toe downshifting to make sure that the difference from road speed to engine speed during the shift is minimal as possible during the gearshift, so that no such lockups unbalance the car....
In drifting, downshifting with out rev matching is used to initiate a drift in the form called "clutch drag"

jesus, i finally watched it and couldn't believe how poorly that gt-r was driven. i hate saying someone sucks, but i honestly believe i could have driven better lines through those curves.

well, true ^ but also keep in mind, its a showroom stock GTR, VS two purpose built race cars, driven by (as stated above) some of the top drivers in Japan.
Thats a great video though, best motoring vids are always a treat. Although I already had that one
