I was wondering which performance chip manufacurer is the best for the 2000 Golf 1.8t. If anyone has a site to go to please let me know. I want the most Hp. gain and I dont care about the fuel consumption. Also if there is a boost controller you would suggest. Thank you......(New project)

Well Ive heard Garrett (www.giacusa.com) makes a real nice chip for the 1.8T which ups power by 47HP and boost to 1 bar (14.7psi). One of the guys from 1552 Design is going to be at Dyno Day testing an APR chip he has. Its suppose to claim a boost of 20 psi and around 200Hhp.

I think for the 1.8Ts most chips are probably the same because of the relatively small turbo on the car.

Heres the link to my dyno graph:

Dont be so impressed by the max numbers. Look at the graph and you can see why I complain about the driveability. It wouldnt drop off as bad if I had an exhaust.

John

Im guessing you have the stage one kit? What kind of gains would you get from a stage 2 kit and what is involved? Cost?

Once I get an exhaust and a new blow off valve the power shouldnt drop off as bad.

Ive just got APRs normal chip no EMCS. The only company that is selling a K04 turbo kit is AWE and they arent having good results with it yet. 190hp at wheels. Theyre trying to get it up to around 220hp. APR is going to be the way to go for big hp. Stage 3 kit is 300hp. Theyre going to be bringing a few cars down to our show in Feb.

It seems to me thee 1.8Ts with 20 V should have TREMENDOUS potential. For some reason it just doesnt seem to have been reliably figured out yet with the possbile expection of APR. But even their Stage 3+ kit doesnt even make 300 wheel hp. We get close to (and over) 300 wheel hp out of these wimpy Chrysler 2.2s using 1970s technology with only 8V a single cam and the worst cylinder head youve ever laid eyes on!

I think the 1.8T is in its infancy and in the next few years wil be rocking.

Very true. Not only has the engine not been around for very long but it also has changed every year. My Jetta has drive-by-wire throttle where the early 1.8T didnt. My car has the K03 sport turbo where the early 1.8T didnt. Now the new 1.8T Passat and A4 is coming with 180hp. In Europe they have a 2.0T now. It never stays the same long enough for anybody to make anything.

I have the APR chip on my 00 5sp passat with ECMS. I would be happy to demo it for anyone interested. 813-908-7704
