Well there are the usual upgrades of filter exhaust and cams. I would look into some cams and maybe an adjustable cam gear for the 2.0L. Those tend to be pretty anemic motors. Im not sure how much the turbo systems are for that car. You can check out 8vturbo.com also check out www.vwvortex.com .

The basic combo would be chip cam intake and exhaust. These should cost under 500.00 but wont yield mid 14s. You will probably see 135-140hp. Nitrous Forced induction or extensive engine work/swap are the only ways to get to mid 14s. Nitrous is you best bang for the buck.

Why dont you buy an older Rabbit and swap in a 16v engine? With out any mods the car will have a better hp/weight ratio than the A3. With head work euro cam exhaust and close ratio tranny the car should run low 14s if not better.

Good luck!

Heres a list of mods I had done to my 1995 Golf 2.0L 8v:

Schrick 268 cam
Techtonics adj. cam gear
Ported and Polished head
Brospeed header
Techtonics exhaust
K&N filter
Custom Autothority chip
Neuspeed plug wires
Velocity ported throttle body

I think that was about it for performance stuff. All that got me a 15.9 at 91mph. Granted Im not a very good drag racer but no one else that drove my car could get any better.

I would definitely listen to John! Maybe you should go have a chat with him at 1552 Design and see what he can whip up for you.

The 2.0L is just not designed to be a fast motor. Its a nice torquey motor for daily driving but the design limits its potential. Believe me Ive owned three 2.0L cars.

You can always go with a turbo or supercharger kit. A supercharger kit will be good for an additoinal 45-50hp. A turbo kit will give you 75-100hp. The turbo kit is not a good idea if you want a daily driver its just too much strain on the driveline.

A Mk2 is a good starting point because of its lighter weight but its also a Mk2. You really have to love those cars to drive everyday. The 2.0L 16v is a good starting point. Add a close ratio final drive Euro intake manifold cams throttle body and full exhaust and the car will scream.
