Having fun with a bike...

Well the 90 model may suck as far as electrical systems but the 90-91s also appear to be a little more aerodynamic (maybe?) as 7 out of the 10 fastest (non-nitrous) DSMs are the pop-up style headlights. Maybe thats just coincedence. Buschur and Glazar got their cars up to 190+ MPH racing on the interstate at the DSM Shootout a while back...and I suppose having a rev-limit of 9500 RPMs may have helped them a bit (Im stuck with the stock 7500 at the moment...now using the MSD which locks it down at 7499).
Stock the 1Gs were clocked at 145 and since they dont have a speed-limiter they will pull to redline if they have the power. I will admit that my speedo only showed 145 (thats the max) but I have larger tires than stock (I have 235/45-17s instead of the 205/55-16s so they are taller) which induces a 1.804% error. I asked my friend when we got to the light and he said we were doing right at 150.
Also have to remember I was running 1.4 bar and race fuel to fight detonation...as well as having a front mount intercooler. Im a little afraid to take my car up to high speeds since I havent gotten a proper alignment...the fastest Id had it up to that point was maybe a handful of runs to 120 or so. It had plenty of room to go so 160-170 would probably be possible but Im gonna need a bigger radiator (FMIC doesnt help the radiators cooling capacity any).
AWD does slow your acceleration considerably in the top end. Were dealing with a 20-22% drivetrain loss compared to RWDs 15% and FWDs 10-15%. We also have a hell of close gear ratio down low but once in 5th thats no help.
Either way I have to believe there was something wrong with the bike for me to keep up in a top end run. Im fairly sure he wouldnt let me sit right next to him unless he was at WOT...but its a used bike and someone probably already ragged the shit out of it. The situation was just very amusing to me...

I wouldnt buy a bike in FL cause Im soooo afraid some grey-hair wouldnt see me and would run my ass over without even blinking. Now maybe if I had somewhere with a lot of open curvey roads to play on...
Vortec: I raced a bike top end and hung with him...Ill be the first to admit it just doesnt sound right. Either my car has more top end than I thought (Ive never made a run at the track on race fuel and 20+ psi) or his bike fell on its face. Im more apt to believe his bike fell flat...and it doesnt hurt my feelings one bit if anyone else agrees with me.
Strangely enough...another bike owner told me his CBR 600 would keep up with a ZX-7 no problem BUT he also was under the impression that the CBR 600 would run 10.8-10.9 stock (and he works at a dealership!). Whats with these guys? Another friend of mine who drives a Vette says that 600s arent too big a problem for him on the run (by all accounts hes running high 12s on radials but hes never had it to the track) but anything bigger becomes a problem and from a dead stop bikes usually beat him.

TransAM-------DONT BUY A BIKE!
For all of you who dont know I have a CBR 600. Its not exactly easy by any means to go over 135 and still feel comtorable. At 145 it feels like youre just hanging on! Hell the helmet presses against your face hard it feels like youre pulling some serious Gs! Im sure he could have gone faster but it gets to the point where you forget about whose nuts are bigger and start worrying about being dead. Ive raced people on my bike and I watched a guy die and Ive come to the conclusion that it just isnt worth it. I still have my bike and Im buying another but Im buying for fun....not racing. Dont get me wrong though....I will be hauling ass.
It is true about moyorcycles anyone I have ever known that had a motorcycle has eaten it bad at one time or another. One guys has no teeth left from a crash two others cant walk right(one wrecked his hip the other wrecked his knee and no longer has a knee cap) and the worst I ever saw was a friend of mine crashed and had a cast on his left arm but still rode his bike and crashed again so now had casts on both arms and his right leg. I want a bike but damn there is a lot of carnage to go with it.
I would love to have a bike but I know I will get hurt. Its not mainly my fault but the other drivers on the road is who you need to look out for.
