Having fun with a bike...

Well...sorta.
I got a call on Tues. from a good friend asking if I wanted to race another of our friends. I knew he was looking to buy new transportation but didnt know what had been bought and when I asked he answered that our buddy had picked up a bike. OK I figured Id get my ass kicked badly (well and did...) but I dont really care...racing is racing. So I agreed but I wanted a few details on the bike. He told me it was a 82 750cc...hmmm...might have a chance? I agreed to race him but told him wed do it Thurs. night (which he had no problem with).
Thurs. rolled around and I got a call...this time from the friend with the bike wanting to know if I still wanted to race him. I said sure and we agreed on a meeting location. As I was heading to the meeting spot I passed another friend of mine who decided to tag along and check out the race. Jeff (Thief) also stopped in...apparently everyone wanted to see me get my ass handed to me by a bike.
Well as my friend with the bike arrived at the gas station near where we street race (our meeting spot) I was surprised to find out it was actually a 1998 Ninja 750 with cold-air intake and full exhasut kit (it dynoed according to him at 145HP at the wheel) and $3k worth of carbon fiber. Needless to say it didnt look good so in went the CAM2 Purple and I went on a few test runs to tune the boost. With the boost at a final setting of 1.4 bar we headed to the local illegal strip. I got a bad 1-2 shift (its getting pretty slow on the shift now) and I fought with 4th slightly but I ended up loosing by about 4 cars...not too bad I suppose. When we returned he mentioned that he may not have been in the throttle all the way (how could you NOT know?). I figured Id loose but I wasnt all that discouraged.
As we left I had a friend sitting shotgun who egged this whole thing on we got into it on the run from 3rd gear (around 60MPH) I pulled 4th and held on. Funny thing he couldnt pull. We were entering a sweeping corner so I let off the throttle slightly and rounded the corner (I have no intention of killing myself to prove how stupid I can be). Once out of the corner he laid into it again so I put the throttle to the floor watched the boost gauge hit 1.4 bar once again and held on. Once again I pulled ever-so-slighly on him! As we approached traffic ahead (a single beaten 80s Camaro driving at or below the speed limit) I let off once again (just in case they decided switch lanes in front of me) shifted 5th and my buddy slowed and switched to my lane just behind me. As we passed the Camaro my friend got on the throttle again and switched lanes to pass. I figured what the hell and my passenger was pushing me hardcore so I stabbed the gas still in 5th cruising at around 110MPH and was amazed once again that he was unable to pull on me. He had reached my front bumper before the turo had spooled completely but I slowly started to reel him in. As we approached more traffic I let off the gas and glanced at the speedo to see that I had run up to 150MPH with plenty of room to go.
All in all not too bad...an AWD keeping up with a bike in a 110-150 run? Then again I have to think theres something wrong with his bike for my car to be able to pull him on the run. Even if he was doing a 6th gear run I was in 5th so thats pretty even... I dont even know what his bike is supposed to run in the 1/4 mi...he claimed 10.8 stock...heheh sure it does.

10.8 stock? i dont think so and it sounds like there was something wrong with the bike he should have left you on top end alone but you only losing by that much was damn good and on the highway he should have left you way behind not talking bad about your car but he should leave every one long behind maybe he should sell the carbon fiber and invest in a tune-up

you guys have to remember youre dealing with bikes.. yeah they run about low 11s sometime 10.9/8s stock... the 1998 ZX-9 my buddy had dipped into a 9.7@144 on a stock motor... bikes are different. they are a hellova lot faster than cars... and a hellova lot cheaper... he was probably just making sure he wasnt dying that night

correct me if im wrong but ive been told by many a dsm owner that the awd in the gsx is a hinderment over 35mph... plus achiveing 150mph is damn next to impossible... esp since the zx-7 doesnt hit it.. at least not withut serious help.. not to be critical at least...

As far as the 150 mph thing goes... I cant speak from experience but I know of someone with a DSM that claims a 172 mph top speed. Mitsu advertises 145 mph @ 7000 rpm as a top speed. My rev limiter doesnt kick in untill just over 7500 rpm. thats good for 150. Keep in mind you can raise your rev limiter too. Its all about being able to make the HP to spin the driveline and cut the air when you are @ that kind of speed.
