Z32 300ZX Turbo build you have NEVER seen before! ALL custom VG30
Z32 300ZX Turbo build you have NEVER seen before! ALL custom VG30
We have a good customer of our that wanted something truly unique for his Z32 n/a build. It is a fully built bottom end and fully built heads but we aren't using the Z32 heads. We acquired the heads from a Nissan Cima with a VG30DET. We also brought in the lower intake manifold which has a different style runner and better flow from the center of the upper plenum.
Then we machined all the other components like the injector holders, fuel rails, upper plenum, and more.
You tell us what you think.....
We started with the bottom end CP Pistons, Eagle rods, ARP head studs, JUN 272 x 9.5 cams, JUN springs, and JUN retainers.
Then we dipped the block, polished and balance the crank, and assembled everything with ACL bearings and Cosworth metal head gaskets:
The Cima heads have a different lower intake opening than the Z32's VG. There are no cut-outs for the injectors because they are mounted in the runners of the lower intake plenum and spray directly into the air flow instead of the head:
As you can see, the injectors are mounted in the lower plenum. This is the stock Cima fuel rail (yuk!)
These are the custom injector holders we machined to fit the plenum but work with our custom rails we made:
We mounted the Cima heads and hand made the intake manifold gaskets using thermal gasket material:
Then we mounted the custom fuel rails and started making the fuel lines and mounted the JUN adjustable cam gears. We also replace all their bolts with stainless allen cap screws. The bolts that are holding the gears to the exhaust cams are 7mm x 1.0. They do not make these in stainless so we bought 8m x 1.0 and machined them to be 7mm:
Then we bought Skyline GTR coils so that they would fit low (unlike the stock 300ZX coils that stick out of the plenum and are 10" long). Then we machined custom brackets that would hold them down between the cams covers:
Then we machined custom coil cover plates and engraved them with our company logo. There is a left side and right side. They are totaly different:
And of course, we made a custom upper intake to match the lower. We are making it a single throttle body system instead of dual. The throttle body will be straight down between the engine and radiator fans:
As far as the car is concerned, we are adding a rear mounted GT35R Garrett ball-bearing turbo.
Hand making the upper plenum gaskets
Installing the upper plenum and making sure we have clearance for the fuel rails and brackets:
good look inside the intake plenum:
Now, we install the fuel rail brackets:
Now we install the fuel rails and attach the upper plenum cover:
The engine is ready to install. The injector -an fittings are installed, the fuel rails are installed, upper plenum installed, valve cover gaskets are sealed, and coil cover plates are installed. Notice the use of stainless allen cap screws on EVERYTHING!
In the next couple weeks we will be wrapping up the install and the custom intercooler piping, radiator piping, Exhaust piping, etc...
We currently have the GT35R mounted in the back of the car but might move it into the engine bay where the battery currently resides.
Tell us your thoughts. Where wold YOU like to see it mounted?
Thanks for looking at our build. Love to have your feedback.
